This was the family home of John and Ann Champion between 1850 - 1857, and from 1863 up until Ann's death in 1873. They raised six children at Slew Cottage; John Beer, Mary Ann, Thirza, Elizabeth, William and Samuel.

A sliding door retained as a feature to the property adjacent to Clifton House. Thirza's husband Willian Slee was a Carter by profession, the sliding door most likely was the entrance to stables where he would have kept his horse(s) and cart.

Downes Farm is a Grade II listed Georgian Farm House built c1850. The house is shown on the 1842 Tithe Map. According to the 1857 Billings Directory it was rebuilt for George Cooper, the land agent for the Pine-Coffin family estate.
